The 29th Annual Field Parasitology Student Symposium

Cedar Point Biological Station

June 25, 2004

At the end of Field Parasitology, students present their independent projects as formal papers in a mock scientific meeting. This year the program was held in the downstairs lab, with Teaching Assistant Matthew Bolek presiding.

The Program:

1. D. C. Hagan and T. J. Hille. Analysis of three genera of the order Peritrichida found on Hyallela azteca in four regions of Keith County, Nebraska.

2. A. McColery and A. Goodenberger. Host specificity and length/abundance correlations among gregarine parasites of three genera in the order Trichoptera.

3. B. W. Lester and S. P. McGrann Discovering the mechanism of gregarine (Nubenocephalus nebraskensis, Hoplorhynchus acanthatholius, Steganorhynchus dunwoodyi) infection in Ischnura verticalis naiads.

4. G. Nissen and C. Collier. Gregarine parasitism in the civil bluet Enallagma civile, at two different locations in western Nebraska.

5. J. Morgan and R. Lebruska. Relationship between the habitat and parasitism in Ischnura verticalis, a common and widespread damselfly species.

6. J. H. Bishay and A. J. Langan. Compartmentalization analysis of gregarines infecting Ischnura verticalis.

7. K. R. Brazeal and M. Waltke. Defining the ecological niche of feather mites (Acarina: Proctophyllodidae) on cliff swallows (Petrocheilidon pyrrhonota) and examining correlations between host demographic classes and parasite abundance.

8. A. A. Knipes and N. S. Brazee. Host specificity of the monogenetic trematodes in a fish community of the South Platte River, Keith County, Nebraska.
